Domestic cats usually have a dislike of water due to most breeds having coats that absorb rather than repel moisture.
Cats do not normally need bathing but there may be circumstances such as heavy soiling of the fur or the application of flea and fungal medications that may make washing necessary.
"Always use a shampoo that is specifically formulated for cats".
Tips for bathing
Bathe the cat in shallow lukewarm water wetting from the shoulders to the tail avoiding the head and ears.
The head and face should be washed separately using a damp cloth without shampoo.
Lather the shampoo into the fur and rinse thoroughly with a light lukewarm spray.
Towel dry as much water from the fur as possible.
Apply plasters to scratches
